Paris Saint Germain sign Kylian Mbappe

Once PSG signed Neymar, the chances of Monaco holding onto Mbappe went down.

France's teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe joined Paris St Germain from AS Monaco and England's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain spurned Chelsea's overtures to sign for Liverpool from Arsenal in two of the most eye-catching deals on transfer deadline day.

"The club is surprised [due to] the fact that it has constantly kept the UEFA Financial Fair Play teams informed of the impact of all player operations carried out this summer [and] were obliged to do so".

Qatari-owned PSG have now spent more than any other club in a single transfer window and will face questions about whether they are complying with Uefa's financial fair play (FFP) rules. PSG are in this season's Champions League.

This is the not the first time PSG have been investigated under FFP rules and even received a fine and spending cap for previously breaking regulations with excessive spending.

"The Investigatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body has opened a formal investigation into Paris Saint-Germain as part of its ongoing monitoring of clubs under Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations'" UEFA stated on Friday in a press release.

The France striker is expected to sign a permanent deal for 180 million euros ($215 million) next year in a move created to prevent PSG falling foul of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations. "I'm very happy there".

After Neymar's signing for a price that more than doubled the previous record fee, PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi said he was unconcerned about potential UEFA sanctions, the most significant of which would be exclusion from the Champions League. They were able to sell off four players - Serge Aurier, Blaise Matuidi, Jean-Kevin Augustin and Youssouf Sabaly - for a reported €62m, but that still leaves PSG's net spending this summer at around €356m.

For the player himself, the transfer allows Mbappe to return to the city of his birth and form a potentially lethal attacking combination with Edinson Cavani and Neymar, and prove that his transfer justifies the hype and the potentially huge fee.

"The Club has demonstrated in recent years that it has the capacity to grow its income exponentially and anticipates an additional 20 to 40% increase on all the levers it has (International Revenue, Sponsoring, Merchandising, Ticketing, TV rights, income related to sports results, summer and winter tours)". However, the double signings mean PSG will need to generate an estimated 125 million euros annually to match its 2015-16 financial statement, although that blow has been softened as Mbappe was taken on a loan deal meaning his transfer will be settled in the next financial year.
