New SM-6 intercepts ballistic missile target at sea

The missile defence drill was conducted from the Arleigh Burke-class USS John Paul Jones, state the statement issue by US Missile Defence Agency (MDA) on Wednesday.

The ship's onboard radar detected and tracked the target missile, and Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) guided missiles were launched from the ship to intercept the target, MDA said.

Hawaii missile test on Monday: The latest US test came days after North Korea fired a Hwasong-12 missile over Japan, an ally of the United States.

The UN Security Council reports that Tuesday's missile launched by the DPRK over Japan traveled some 2,700 kilometers before crashing into the Pacific Ocean.

"Threatening and destabilizing actions only increase the North Korean regime's isolation in the region and among all nations of the world", Trump said after the North's missile soared nearly 1,700 miles into the Pacific Ocean, triggering alert warnings in northern Japan and shudders throughout Northeast Asia.

Former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie told the FOX Business Network's Dagen McDowell on Mornings with Maria that time is of the essence in dealing with the North Korea threat.

This exercise marked the seventh intercept test of the Aegis Baseline 9.1 (BMD 5.0CU) Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) tracking and engagement capabilities and the third successful SM-6 BMD intercept test using Baseline 9.1.

'We will continue developing ballistic missile defence technologies to stay ahead of the threat as it evolved'.

Due to the diplomatic efforts and sanctions failing to make headway in stopping the North Korea threat, Higbie is concerned the US may be forced to consider the military options.
