McConnell Stalls Republican Obamacare Fix, Bewilders Trump

A majority of the public (57 percent) want to see Republicans in Congress work with Democrats to make improvements to the 2010 health care law, while smaller shares say they want to see Republicans in Congress continue working on their own plan to repeal and replace the ACA (21 percent) or move on from health care to work on other priorities (21 percent). Trump wants to move on to tax reform and infrastructure but the Affordable Healthcare Act, an imploding law that Republicans can not fix and will not repeal, stands in the way.

"Several unsuccessful attempts by Congress this year to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act did nothing to bolster its already poor image", Gallup notes of the latest numbers.

According to a poll conducted by two academic authors and The Washington Post, 52 percent of Republicans said they would back a postponement of the next election if Trump called for it.

For example, 6 in 10 Republicans and Trump backers want the GOP to continue its repeal and replace drive in Congress.

Narrator: "Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are gutting our health care".

Republicans in Congress failed to fulfill their promise to their constituents last month by being incapable of repealing Obamacare in the U.S. Senate. If Trump continues to mess with Obamacare, as this poll illustrates, Republicans will pay a heavy price in 2018. Favorable views have increased 9 percentage points since the 2016 presidential election, with the trend occurring among Democrats, independents, and Republicans. Sixty-nine percent of Americans agreed with this plan, compared to just 29 percent who wanted more efforts to repeal the law.

More people say they are "relieved" (51%) or "happy" (47%) that the Senate did not pass a bill than say they are "disappointed" (38%) or "angry" (19%).

This Kaiser Health Tracking Poll was designed and analyzed by public opinion researchers at the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF).

Similarly, six in 10 (60%) say that insurers' decisions not to sell insurance plans in certain marketplaces will affect everyone with insurance, and three-quarters (76%) say so about insurers charging higher premiums in certain marketplaces. "I think Donald Trump spoke to the American people during the campaign and that's why he's in office, because they're sick and exhausted of this kind of stuff happening in Washington, D.C., people saying, 'we can't do it, ' well why can't you do it?" Computer-assisted telephone interviews conducted by landline (428) and cell phone (783, including 487 who had no landline telephone) were carried out in English and Spanish by SSRS of Media, Pennsylvania. For results based on subgroups, the margin of sampling error may be higher.
