AIADMK merger: Decision on CM and general secretary posts remains inconclusive

Meanwhile, the AIADMK led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E.K. Palaniswami has declared as null and void the appointment of T.T.V. Dhinakaran as the Deputy General Secretary while they have also adopted resolutions against Sasikala.

A Senior leader from the O Panneerselvam-led faction said that Sasikala's removal and setting up of a judicial enquiry into AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa's death are "our fundamental demands for unification".

The ruling AIADMK dismissed its Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran on Thursday. At the meeting, it was decided that VK Sasikala's appointment was "temporary, till the election of a new chief". He said he would act against any partyman, including the chief minister, if they went against the interests of the party. Downplaying rebellion by former chief minister O Panneerselvam, he said some may have separated from the party but it will have no bearing on the government. Talking to reporters at Thanjavur on Friday, he clearly said that he was appointed by Sasikala and no one can remove him from the party post. He also cited precedence to counter the charge by both OPS and EPS factions that his return to the party was illegal because he had been removed by Jayalalithaa long ago.

Palaniswami was here to attend the swearing-in ceremony of M. Venkaiah Naidu as Vice President.

The PM said to have conveyed to both the leaders that they should keep in mind the political stability of the state government and not let a sense of drift prevail because of the demise of their leader and former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa last December.

The AIADMK in Tamil Nadu does not seem to know what it stands for and what it wants. He is said to have offered to OPS the post of deputy CM. On the other hand, EPS knows that if he loses the CM position, Kongu community would be thrown out of the party by Team OPS and Sasikala's family and hence the dilemma.

Sasikala is now in jail; she had appointed Dinakraran the party's deputy general secretary just before being imprisoned.

If EPS moves an inch, Dinakaran will put down his government because he has 37 MLAs with him.

However, he was arrested for allegedly trying to bribe an Election Commission official to buy (for his faction) the "frozen" two leaves symbol of the AIADMK during the RK Nagar polls.
