Jaitley hits out at CPI(M) for political violence in Kerala

The Union Minister made this observation after paying a visit to the house of an RSS karyavah killed in Thiruvananthapuram in the latest incidence of violence. The CPM members also claimed that Jaitley's visit was an attempt by the BJP to distract attention from allegations of corruption against its leaders in the state.

It said BJP-RSS began their attacks the very day assembly election results in Kerala were announced in May 2016. "Governments are elected to do good for the people", the BJP leader said adding "but in Kerala, the ruling party is perpetrating violence on the people".

The state has been witnessing a series of violence involving BJP-RSS and CPI-M workers with the capital district rocked by incidents of attacks on houses of rival partymen in the past few days. He said if the violence had happened in a state ruled by the BJP or NDA, awards would've been returned and Parliament wouldn't have been allowed to function. CPM meant to counter the BJP's claim that only Sangh Parivar workers were being targeted.

Earlier, Jaitley visited the family of S N Rajesh, the RSS karyavahak who was hacked to death last month by suspected CPM supporters.

Chennai: Arun Jaitley's Kerala visit on Sunday comes while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's initiatives to restore peace are in progress. "The BJP workers of Kerala are not alone, the whole nation is with you", Jaitley said after meeting Rajesh's family members. Ahead of Jaitley's visit, the CPI (M) organised a dharna by the relatives of 21 party workers allegedly killed by RSS-BJP activists in the district and demanded that Jaitley should visit them also. RSS state secretary and Prantha Karyavahak P. Gopalankutty Master told DC that the central RSS leadership had even thought of "dismissal" of the LDF government over the political violence in the state. They can neither suppress the ideology nor scare away workers through such barbaric acts, " he added.

Rajnath Singh then spoken to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and voiced concern over attacks on political workers in Kerala and said political violence was unacceptable in a democracy.

Although not declared a political murder, police arrested 16 RSS workers in connection with the killing of a teenager called Ananthu Ashokan at Cherthala. The CPI-M alleged that the RSS-BJP combine was spreading a false propaganda on the issue of political violence.
