RB Leipzig manager responds directly to reports Liverpool want Naby Keita

RB Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has warned clubs interested in Naby Keita that there is no chance the Guinea midfielder will be sold this season.

Jurgen Klopp has so far made three additions to his squad during the current summer transfer window, strengthening defence and attack with the signings of Andrew Robertson, Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool had an initial bid of £57million at the start of this month rebuffed by Leipzig, and they returned with an offer that was worth around £66million. "To play Champions League for Naby Keita is a great thing".

Asked after Leipzig's 1-0 loss to Sevilla at the Emirates Cup on Saturday whether there was still a chance the club's stance could soften, Hasenhuttl said: "The chance is zero".

The Reds have now ended their interest in Keita and instead plan on signing him next summer when his £48m release clause comes into effect.

"At the beginning of the transfer period that we said we would start with the same team and of the players we had past year no-one will go".

Hasenhuttl believes Keita will benefit from another season of development with Leipzig, with the experience of making his Champions League debut a crucial part of his development.

'Everyone can see how important Naby Keita is with our game. "Until next summer we keep it (the door) closed and then we have a look", Hasenhuttl added. "I said for the players I think it's very important to stay another year with this team because next year we play in the Champions League for the first time and it's a new situation for every one of us".

"We are not where we want to be yet, but that is what pre-season is for".

"Keita is more focused on us and has more fun now than past year".

"Behind many players with an African background, and I've met a lot of them, there is a clan and sometimes a whole village, that lives from the help of one football player".
