Utah parents give drugs to newborn in hospital

On June 28, a woman who went to take care of the couple's pets while they were in prison found drug paraphernalia in their home and reported it to authorities. Wilde picked up the vehicle seat and dropped it again and "Handed the auto seat and the child to a stranger and then got in the auto and took off".

After their release, authorities received a tip suggesting the couple were back on drugs.

When loss prevention employees stopped Wilde and his 2-month-old daughter from leaving the premises, he bolted, eventually handing off his daughter to a stranger before hopping in his auto and driving away, KUTV reported.

Christenson, who was at the store with Wilde and her four kids, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant. Christenson and Wilde told police that friends had told them it was a good way to hide drug withdrawal symptoms in a baby. After obtaining a warrant to search the home Deputies discovered items of drug paraphernalia in many different areas of the home, including next to a baby bassinet, next to a childs sippy cup, and others.

According to the Utah County Sheriff's Office, on June 26, Wilde was allegedly involved in a shoplifting at a Utah Walmart. A search of the home led to the discovery of drugs, including Suboxone, which is used to treat addiction. According to the Miami Herald, Lacey Christenson and Colby Wilde have been jailed on suspicion and distribution of a controlled substance, child endangerment as well as possession of methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia. Wilde is father to the three younger children. The infant girl was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. As for Wilde and Christenson, they are sitting in jail. That's when she noticed drug paraphernalia, and she notified the police.

The punishment range for a child endangerment felony charge in most states is two years and could increase up to twenty years. They also found Suboxone pills.

All four children tested positive for methamphetamine, the Sheriff's Office said.

Wilde's children all tested positive for methamphetamine while his baby daughter is also tested positive for heroin and morphine.

Infants born to opioid addicts are often afflicted by neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), which presents itself as host of withdrawal symptoms that include tremors, hyperactive reflexes, vomiting, dehydration, the inability to gain weight and seizures, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Because they knew their daughter would be born an addict, Christenson and Wilde later told investigators "they talked to friends about how to mask signs of drug dependence in an infant, and that they discussed this issue with each other", the sheriff's office claimed in a statement.

Wilde and Christenson are both being held on a $10,000 cash bail.

Wilde fled the scene - after dropping a vehicle seat holding his infant child multiple times - but was arrested a short time later, according to police, who charged him with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of heroin and methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without insurance, theft and child abuse.

Police later found Wilde in a nearby parking lot, where they arrested him and charged him with a series of crimes including DUI, possessing heroin and meth, driving without insurance, and other charges.
