Cong top brass meet to chalk out strategy for Monsoon session

Elected members of both houses of Parliament and assemblies in states, including the National Capital Region of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry, are eligible to vote.

The 19-day Session is expected to be stormy with the Opposition likely to corner the government over key issues including the stand-off with China in Doklam, the killing of Hindu pilgrims in the terrorist attack in Amarnath, farmer suicides in Madhya Pradesh, the roll-out of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), and the communal violence in West Bengal.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad made it clear today that the Congress and other opposition parties would target the government over the issues of Kashmir as well as the stand-off with China.

BJP has said that it is ready to discuss on all issues in Parliament.


The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day after obituary references soon after the monsoon session of Parliament began on Monday. "As a responsible and principled Opposition party, we shall be raising all these issues and many more", Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said. Apart from this, the Centre will also introduce 16 new bills in both the houses of the Parliament for consideration and passing.

CPI-M leader Mohammad Salim said on Sunday that his party will raise the issues of cross border tensions with India and Pakistan, mob lynching by cow vigilantes, and the agrarian crisis. It also paid homage to some of former members of the Houses.

Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Sunday said that all political parties have given assurance for a peaceful and constructive Monsoon Session beginning tomorrow. The Prime Minister also called on all the parties to support the war against corruption, which has been initiated by the government.The Prime Minister also mentioned that the highest level of dignity has been maintained in the whole process of Presidential Election till now and no situation of any bitterness surfaced among the political parties.
