Trump's Approval Rating Hits A Historic Low Point

"The ABC/Washington Post Poll, even though nearly 40% is not bad at this time", the president wrote of the 36% approval rating, "was just about the most inaccurate poll around election time!"

In fact, 18% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing even though they do not think he has the proper make-up to be president.

While 58 percent said they're moving closer to realizing their own career and financial aspirations, 55 percent view Trump unfavorably.

A total of 48 percent of respondents said they "disapprove strongly" of the president's performance in office-a low threshold never reached by ex-presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, both Democrats, and only reached once by George W. Bush, during his second term.

Despite Mr Trump's claims on the campaign trail to "make America great" on the world stage, the survey found 48 per cent believed the U.S. has actually been weakened.

Thirty-five percent of respondents to the poll said health care is "the most important issue facing the country right now", more than any other topic surveyed.

Results of the poll, carried out by the US Broadcaster ABC News and newspaper Washington Post, come amid a wider perceptions of a decline in US global influence, a much-delayed Republican agenda, and unfolding stories about alleged Russia's links to the 2016 Trump campaign.

There is no visible upside to Trump's presidency.

Trump's handling of the economy also isn't a disaster: Forty-three percent approve of it compared to 41 percent who disapprove and 16 percent who are unsure.

Earlier, Mr Trump claimed his son had been "scorned by the Fake News Media".

Just 37 percent said that the Democratic Party "stands for something" while more than half - 52 percent - said it is merely standing in opposition to Trump.

Trump boasted of his deal-making abilities on the campaign trail, but majorities also did not back Trump in negotiations with foreign leaders-in particular Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom Trump met face-to-face for the first time at a recent G20 summit in Germany. Almost four in 10 Republicans, 38 percent, say his conduct has been unpresidential rather than "fitting and proper" for a president. Each held a 59 per cent job approval rating in Post-ABC polling.

The poll surveyed 600 adults in these counties between July 8-12 and has a plus or minus 5.3 percentage point margin of error in "flip" counties and a plus or minus 6.1 percentage point margin of error in "surge" counties.
