Sevilla midfielder to sign for Leicester City

LEICESTER City have agreed a deal to sign Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra for £12.3million.

The 29-year-old featured against the Foxes in their Champions League round of 16 ties and impressed the club's recruitment, with Leicester of the opinion that the former Levante man would be a ideal fit for the Premier League due to both his powerful style of play in a number of positions and his imposing 6ft 3 frame.

Iborra faced Leicester in the Champions League last 16 in March with the English side progressing over two legs.

Iborra won three UEFA Europa League titles and scored 30 goals in 172 matches with the La Liga side.

Iborra began his career as a defensive midfielder with Levante, before moving to Sevilla in 2013.

The club announced his departure on their website, subject to personal terms and a medical.

"Sevilla and Leicester City have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Vicente Iborra", the statement read. Having replaced the sacked Claudio Ranieri in February, Shakespeare will be hoping he can have Leicester challenging at the top end of the table this season.

Spaniard Iborra played against them in last season's Champions League and club recruitment chiefs believe the tall midfielder is perfectly built to succeed in the Premier League.

Argentine playmaker Ever Banega has returned to the club a year after leaving for Inter Milan, while forward Vitolo is reported to be on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid, spending the first six months on loan at Las Palmas.
