Putin, Trump to meet at G-20 Summit

Trump's National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said Putin would be among the world leaders meeting the USA president during the summit, taking place on July 7 and 8.

Mr McMaster added that Mr Trump also plans to meet with the leaders of several other countries - among them, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, South Korea. The economic meeting taing place in Germany will be the first between the two men.

Trump raised Russian hackles this week when the White House said it appeared the Syrian military was preparing to conduct a chemical weapons attack and warned that Assad and his forces would "pay a heavy price" if it did so.

In testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Nicholas Burns, a retired career diplomat and State Department official under the George W. Bush administration, said Americans "deserved to know" how Russian officials were trying to influence the most recent presidential election. That's why Russian Federation "will continue to improve and expand its intelligence capacity, and technical and operational capabilities", Putin said.

The White House said Trump's main goal would be to end all differences between Russian Federation and the West and "develop a common approach".

Aside from an official phone call between newly-inaugurated Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the former trashed his predecessor's nuke treaty as a "bad deal" without understanding it, the pair hasn't met in person.

Lavrov said it was especially important that Trump and Putin had an opportunity to talk about the conflict in Syria and efforts to find a peaceful solution. However, he added, one should remember that it is not only the relationship between Moscow and Washington at stake. "So Trump is right in that regard".

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with Trump at the White House on Tuesday in what he himself said was an attempt to "arm" the United States president with information ahead of his meeting with Putin.
