This guy created Super Mario in real life using augmented reality

We've already plenty of awesome applications of HoloLens augmented reality prowess, but arguably none have been as cool as this. Well, coder and designer Abhishek Singh has done it. He did this all dressed as Mario and he filmed it in a video that is very likely destined to go viral.

Singh developed the AR demo using Unity and the Microsoft HoloLens, the latter the only widely available AR device and platform, at least for now.

The final level was more than 110m long, and Abhishek is thinking of creating some of the underground levels of the game in the NYC Subways next. Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. was an iconic masterpiece in gaming history and still delights players to this day. For the most part, though, it's a fascinating, weird recreation of a familiar experience.

"In Mario since all the action tends to start happening further out in front of you, I didn't find the limited field of view to be a hindrance". Anytime a game offers a level editor, it'll appear, and the internet is awash with everything from Minecraft Mario, to first-person re-imaginings and virtual reality variants. Turning into an experience that really feels like a Mario game is a whole different challenge. If you've ever wondered what that would be like, this video is probably the closest you've ever gotten to knowing the answer! Let's hope he does a Metroid version next, to make taking the subway a little more enjoyable.
