Trump congratulates Handel on Twitter

President Donald Trump's much-prophesied destruction of the Republican Party has yet to come to pass and, for now at least, appears to be mainly wishful thinking on the part of progressives and their many pals in the national media.

That includes Tuesday night's special elections in Georgia, where Republican Karen Handel defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff by 4 percentage points, and SC, where Republican Ralph Norman defeated Democrat Archie Parnell by 3 percentage points.

The Ohio Democrat made similar comments earlier Wednesday following Jon Ossoff's loss in the special election for Georgia's Sixth District.

Former Georgia secretary of state Karen Handel on Tuesday defeated political newcomer Democrat Jon Ossoff, 52 percent to 48 percent. However, the GOP has won four consecutive election cycles in House races, while she has remained the Democratic leader in Congress.

The outcomes in Georgia and SC also could boost Republican efforts to advance health and tax legislation that has been bogged down by infighting and investigations into whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russian Federation in last year's presidential election. "All the Fake News, all the money spent = 0", the president declared.

With Tuesday's votes in Georgia and SC, we have now had five special Congressional elections since the Presidential Inauguration. And yet they came up short, as they have in every special election this year involving a Republican congressional seat.

At Wednesday's briefing, Moulton called the results of the election frustrating. I wonder if that had to do with what may be a misperception that college-educated, well-to-do whites are more alarmed about President Trump than working-class people and African-Americans.

Republican lawmakers argue the wins give them added impetus for pushing through a healthcare bill, The Hill reported.

Handel ran as much against House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her "San Francisco values" as she did against Ossoff, portraying the Democrat as culturally and politically alien to Georgia.

"There have been super PACs in Washington who have been putting up tens of millions of dollars of attack ads in air for months now", Ossoff said. "You've got to have a clear message. That's no way to build a national party".

Texas Democrats say they feel confident they'll be able to turn red districts blue in the 2018 midterms. While I'm truly sorry he lost, it was an overwhelmingly Republican district, where Tom Price won by 23 points in 2016, and the full disaster of the current Republican policies are not yet being felt by most people.
