Trump 'ready to testify' over Comey conversations

Legal experts and pundits say that, along with the firing of Comey itself, could amount to obstruction of justice.

With talks of large scale protests, including a campaign to "show your rump to Trump", it seems he's not keen to visit Britain if the public don't want him there, according to the New York Times.

Gingrich said Comey represented the deep state "permanent opposition" to the president, who would stop at nothing to "keep their influence" and harm Trump's presidency.

On Friday an angry Trump said Comey "lied" and that he was "100 percent" prepared to be interviewed by Mueller in any probe. The first challenge is the word "hope".

Intelligence agencies have concluded Russian Federation sought to interfere in the election, including by leaking hacked Democratic emails and engaging in propaganda efforts. "I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the near future", Trump said.

He insisted he was not "hinting anything", before adding: "Oh, you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don't worry".

Collins said that if the tapes exist, Trump should voluntarily turn them over not only to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, but also to the special counsel.

"This is an issue that the president should have cleared up in his press conference", Collins said.

The June 9 front-page article "Comey says Trump lied about him, FBI" said that former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey's congressional testimony could deepen the crisis threatening the White House. "Something about the way I was conducting it, the president felt, created pressure on him that he wanted to relieve."Given Comey's reputation as a methodical, ultra-cautious investigator, the testimony was damning, said a Washington lawyer who served in a top position in a prior administration".

"I take the president at his word, that I was sacked because of the Russian Federation investigation", he said, referring to a statement by Trump in an NBC interview.

He also accused Qatar, a key US military partner, of funding terrorism "at a very high level", and said solving the problem in the tiny Persian Gulf nation could be "the beginning of the end of terrorism". "That is a very big deal".

Trump also saluted the United States' relationship with Romania and praised its contribution to the global fight against terror.

Trump is the one who subsequently fired Comey when the probe continued.

A Democratic senator says he expects tough questions for Attorney General Jeff Sessions about his involvement in the firing of FBI Director James Comey when he testifies to Congress on Tuesday. Mr Comey also revealed that he had orchestrated the public release of information about his private conversations with the president in an effort to further the investigation.

"...and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" Mr Trump wrote at 6.10am. And he repeated the charge at the Rose Garden news conference, telling reporters, "He's a leaker".

Mr Kasowitz is expected to file a complaint with the Justice Department inspector general next week. Comey on Thursday had said he would welcome the release of such recordings, if they exist.

"And I think you saw today the overwhelming majority of the intel members, Democrats and Republicans, feel that Jim Comey is credible. Even folks who have been his critics don't question his integrity, his commitment to the rule of law and his intelligence", Warner said.

On Friday, leaders of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee said that they had asked Comey for the memos of his discussions with Trump and told the White House to produce any recordings or memos of conversations between Trump and Comey.
