Qatar pulls all its troops from Djibouti-Eritrea border

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt are among several countries that suspended ties with Qatar last week, including the suspension of all flights to and from Doha and an airspace ban on Qatar Airways.

Bahraini authorities have detained a citizen for sympathising with Qatar on social media, the attorney general said Wednesday, after authorities warned that sympathising with Doha was tantamount to a criminal offence.

Turkey has also waded into the argument, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denouncing the action as "inhumane and against Islamic values".

Those states, as well as Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have broken off diplomatic and economic relations with Qatar but must respect citizens' rights, he said.

While the dispute hasn't escalated to a military confrontation, Qatar's military is dwarfed by neighboring Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, two of its biggest opponents in the crisis.

Qatar denies allegations that it supports terrorism and has vowed not to give up its independent foreign policy.

"We will spend the night in Qatar with meetings and a working program".

US President Donald Trump stepped into the crisis by appearing to side against Qatar and accused Doha on Friday of being a "high level" sponsor of terrorism.

"Qatar has been an impartial diplomatic mediator in resolving crises and disputes between brotherly and friendly countries and will continue to be a major player in the global community", the ministry said in a statement.

Yemen's internationally backed government, which no longer holds its capital and large portions of the war-torn country, also cut relations with Qatar, as did the Maldives and one of conflict-ridden Libya's competing governments. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the move was rooted in longstanding differences and urged the parties to resolve them. Even if Qatar does accept the list of demands, Otaiba said they'd have to fulfill specific steps over a period of time to show seriousness before the countries would restore ties to the tiny country.

This development has also prompted Iran to send five cargo planes to the country, each carrying about 90 tons of food, and three cargo vessels also loaded with food supplies.
