'Wonder Woman' buries 'The Mummy' at box office

Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon rom-com film "Raabta" which was release beside Tom Cruise's film beat the box office collection of 'The Mummy.' On the second day i.e. Saturday, the film shows slight growth in the collection figure, the film did the box office business of Rs. 4-4.50 crores* (approx) on Saturday. With many of this summer's offerings being disappointing critically, audiences have flocked to the well-received DC Extended Universe installment to support it. Only The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises grossed more in their second rounds than Wonder Woman.

Obviously, this is news that DC and Warner Bros.is incredibly happy with and suggests a very strong final gross.

When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had its second weekend, the film raked in a close $52 million after experiencing a hefty 68% drop.

"The Mummy Returns" 2001 had a $68 million weekend.

"Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie", last weekend's runner-up, falls to #3 this weekend.

What is new is the idea that the monster films will all relate to one another. With super action star Tom Cruise helming the new series, it should have ideally spelled out success at the get go.

Different weekend, similar story: "Wonder Woman" is box office royalty. This brings the worldwide total to $833 million.

Universal execs said, the Mummy's ultimate financial standing will largely depend on its foreign showing.

Already this year, we've seen M. The film has fared even better overseas, with its worldwide tally standing at $435 million. A lot was riding on the film, but they did not announce a series of seven or more films right out of the gate either.

Another prediction exceeded was that of The Mummy, which did even worse in Wonder Woman's wake than originally expected. The domestic total now stands at $205 million. That puts it on course for as high as $380 million in the United States and a money maker on a $200 million budget. But "It Comes at Night" also only cost $5 million to make. At first, the movie was tracking for a $40 million domestic opening, which was later lowered to $35 million. Audiences agreed, giving "The Mummy" a B-minus CinemaScore. A24's horror release will scare up $6 million from 2,533, which is fine for the low price tag, but below expectations.

"Baywatch", $4.6 million ($10.7 million international). Down 51%, the sequel has pocketed $136 million domestically and may finish with $150 million in domestic ticket sales. It earned $12.3 million (cume now $44.6 million). The budget isn't known but even with minimal marketing, it will probably not make much if any money.

Everything, Everything (US$1.6 million). Ridley Scott's latest has now made $71.2 million in its domestic run. While most critics are not loving the movie, some say that though it's a misstep, they're actually looking forward to the other movies in the Dark Universe. With China still yet to open, it may still have an okay shot at avoiding red ink for Fox but it is not a hit by any measure. Direct competition comes next weekend when Pixar's Cars 3 arrives. It stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Riley Keough.
