London Bridge attack arrest total rises with 2 more in custody

He said every available police auto was filled with police officers and they rushed to London Bridge. That includes a 27-year-old man arrested in the Ilford district in east London and a 28-year-old man arrested in the London suburb of Barking.

Speaking after police revealed the ringleader of the London Bridge terror gang tried to hire a 7.5 tonne lorry hours before the attack, she urged people to report anything they deem suspicious.

And strapped to the trio's waists as they leapt from its doors were fake suicide belts, composed of plastic water bottles wrapped in grey duct tape.

Butt was also arrested for fraud last October but was about to be told by prosecutors he would face no further action.

They stabbed five people who had been enjoying the area's pubs and restaurants.

She said: "A Saturday night for London, a week after the awful attacks at London Bridge, is a chance for people to show the unity and resilience of this great city and the generosity of Londoners in getting out and raising money to help the survivors, the victims and their families".

What started out as an ordinary Saturday night for London Metropolitan Police officer Jim Cole turned into the "most challenging, most intense" of his career when he was called to an incident on London Bridge.

Police shared images of the knives found on or near the bodies of Butt, Rachid Redouane and Youssef Zaghba after police shot them dead at the scene. But his bank card was declined and he was forced to use the much smaller, lighter B&Q van.

In total, 19 people have been arrested in connection to the attack.

Police say the London Bridge attackers tried to hire the huge truck to carry out their attack.

Police also disclosed that more than a dozen petrol bombs and two blowtorches were discovered in the van, and a copy of the Quran opened at a page "describing martyrdom" was found at one of the attackers' houses.

Instead, that evening, police say Butt rented a Renault van. "There is a possibility that they could have come back", Haydon said.

Police also found a number of office chairs, gravel and a suitcase in the van.

The aim of the attackers seems to have been to replicate the attack in Nice, the officer said.

Butt, who police consider the attack ringleader, had been on bail after being arrested for fraud in a case in October of a year ago, police said.

The knives are 12 inches long and are branded Ernesto. Six were still in custody on Saturday and one was released on bail.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command, supported by the Territorial Support Group, arrested a 29-year-old man at a residential address in Newham, east London, the Met Police said in a statement.

After the London Bridge attack, May said Britain was under threat from a new breed of crude copycat militants who did not spend months planning and may not have been radicalised online.

She said: "At the present time I do not regard what I have seen as an intelligence failure, but everybody would expect us to look at what has happened and to ensure that both we learn everything that we can, and that we improve and improve and improve".
