London mayor tells AP he doesn't care about Trump tweets

The mayor of London called for Prime Minister Theresa May to cancel President Donald Trump's planned state visit to the United Kingdom after Trump's latest outburst at the mayor following Saturday night's terrorist attack in the city.

Following the London bridge attack, in which 7 people died and more than 40 were injured, Trump called the mayor "pathetic" for his attempts to calm distraught Londoners.

Trump doubled down Monday morning and fired back on Twitter, writing, "Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement".

"When you have a special relationship it's no different to when you've got a close mate, you stand with them in times of adversity but call them out when they're wrong and there are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong". "You need to be about 9 years old in your social development to understand when your neighbor, friend, brother, sister - which is what the British are to us - have suffered a great tragedy, the only decent response is to say, 'I'm terribly sorry and how can I help'".

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan (right) and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick speak to the media while visiting the scene of the London Bridge attack.

"Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. MSM is working hard to sell it!" the president tweeted Monday.

While he covered a few different topics, including Russian Federation, there was one answer that stood out in particular: his thoughts on his father's inflammatory tweets about London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

When asked if Trump was welcome in London on BBC's "Breakfast News" show, Khan reiterated his disagreement with Trump's proposed travel ban targeting several Muslim-majority countries.

In a Sunday tweet, Trump mischaracterized Khan's remarks by suggesting the mayor had said there was "no reason to be alarmed" about the attack itself. "There's no reason to be alarmed ".

Khan said earlier this year Trump should be denied a state visit to Britain due to his "cruel and shameful" immigration policies. And I think that's what he's trying to say, because he's been proven right about it every time.

On Tuesday, the president's eldest child, Donald Trump Jr., appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" in a pre-recorded interview.

As for Trump, Khan acknowledges that Britain and the US have a "special relationship", no matter who is president.

"We have worked with Sadiq Khan in responding to this attack".
