Pat Riley says Magic Johnson is the greatest player ever

But are they the greatest team ever?

You can hear Johnson's full comments on the hypothetical matchup here.

The Golden State Warriors forward was asked on Tuesday for his thoughts on Magic Johnson's recent claim that the "Showtime" Lakers would sweep Green's Warriors and proceeded to simply let his laugh box do all the talking.

Well, word of Johnson's bold claim made its way to Warriors forward Draymond Green, who offered a flawless response.

Green, because he is a competitor did say today's Warriors would run the Showtime Lakers into the ground with their speed perhaps, but he knows he can't prove that any more than Magic can prove his Lakers would wipe the floor with Green's Warriors.

Still, Green wouldn't declare his squad better than L.A.'s because he doesn't engage in historical comparisons.

"We would probably sweep 'em", said Johnson, to the delight of Champion, Riley and those in attendance.

Then, Riley, the former Lakers head coach who had won four National Basketball Association championships in nine seasons with Johnson on the team, called the legendary point guard the "greatest player of all-time". "If I called him first, then he ain't gonna say anything".

But Green contends it doesn't make any sense to compare teams or players from different eras because the game has changed so much. So I never really understand that, nor do I get off into it.

Pat Riley on Magic Johnson: "He's the greatest player of all time".

"You wanna know why?" It should be noted Mychal is Klay Thompson's dad, so he has some bias here. "He just had more pressure on him to have to score all the time". [Johnson] could've scored 30 points a game if he wanted to.

Oscar Robertson, for instance, said Steph Curry is successful because he's not being defended with the same intensity as himself in the 50s and 60s.

A year later, with the Warriors adding a mostly unstoppable Kevin Durant to the roster, Johnson's at it again. (The Warriors won the championship about a month later). "You want to see them do well", Green said.

"When you have a team with the makeup of our team back then, we could play slow, we could play fast", Erving told ESPN LA 710. "I think I sound stupid because that's how all of it be sounding to me". If it happens to be the next two in Cleveland, they'll have another record to back up the argument.

"We don't bring up previous year in terms of strategy, in terms of sort of what we need to do better or here or there", Kerr said.
