President Trump Honors Fallen Service Members

President Trump lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. John Kelly's other son, Johnny, is preparing for his fifth military deployment, and his son-in-law Jake is a wounded warrior. He then rested his hand on his heart as a bugler played taps.

President Donald Trump offered a solemn tribute to America's soldiers during a Memorial Day speech at Arlington National Cemetery Monday, honoring those who gave their lives in war and those now serving in defense of the country.

"And while we can not know the extent of your pain, what we do know is that our gratitude to them and to you is boundless and undying", Trump said of America's Gold Star families.

Response to Trump's speech on Memorial Day has been overwhelmingly positive, with ABC describing it as a "solemn tribute" and New York Magazine author Ed Kilgore calling it "entirely appropriate and occasionally eloquent". At the time, he did so alongside Vice President Mike Pence, who is scheduled to join Trump Monday morning.

Instead, Trump used the occasion to single out several service members who have died in combat in recent years and also honored former Sen.

In the first of two tweets Trump sent out on Monday, he says: "Today we remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving".

"I believe that God has a special place in heaven for those who laid down their lives so that others may live free".

The remarks of Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman James Dunford, who stood with the president, were also appropriately distinguished and moving.

After the ceremony, the president visited with families in Section 60 of the cemetery, where most of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried.

"I think it's extremely important and I wish more people actually knew the true meaning of what Memorial Day was and is", Chris said. Six-year-old Christian Jacobs' father, Marine Sgt. Christopher Jacobs, died during military training exercises in Twentynine Palms, Calif., in 2011.

"While we can not know the extent of your pain, what we do know is that our gratitude to you is boundless and undying", Trump said during a speech at Arlington National Cemetery.

The president spent most of the day yesterday at Arlington National Cemetery speaking to Gold Star families. Bob Dole during the speech and turned to the wars of today by remembering Army Spc.
