Nashville Predators Even Series With Pittsburgh Penguins

Here's Chris Harris of WSMV-TV in Nashville, capturing the scene after the Predators' victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins and delightfully oblivious to the face-sucking happening in back of him until the hilarious reveal. The Penguins' offense was clicking.

Of course, based on the Nashville Predators' 4-1 win against the Penguins in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final Monday in Nashville, there was only one goalie now worthy of the award.

And probably a little nerve-racking. When limited to one goal during the 2016 postseason, they won the following game.

Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin heard all the questions about not getting a shot on goal in Game 3.

Viktor Arvidsson would score two minutes later to finally, finally give Rinne some breathing room.

The game wasn't all breakaways and highlight-reel saves. That will likely lead to speculation as to whether Penguins coach Mike Sullivan will turn back to veteran Marc-Andre Fleury for Game 5.

Game 5 is Thursday night in Pittsburgh. Nashville looks like a team that can win the Stanley Cup... Over the last two games, the Finnish netminder saved 50 of 52 (.962) and looked like the (positive) difference-maker that he was in the prior three series. After being frightful in the first two games of the series, Nashville's domination in Game 3 gave him some confidence. This time, the Predators goaltender was ready. We know they can play against anybody. We thought we played a real competitive game in Game 2.

Nashville played its most complete game last night, a game that saw the team continue its game over game improvement and honing in on the things that are driving their success. Defensively, they were rock solid again, holding the Penguins to 17 shots halfway through the third period.

After the first intermission, the Preds surged on both offense and defense. Gaudreau was given the goal-the third of his career. It wasn't until 35 seconds later that the horn sounded and the officials made a decision to review the play.

Penalties - Hainsey Pgh (high-sticking) 6:15. Second, Crosby is playing monster games. Roman Josi held the puck up long enough in the crease to allow Rinne to dive across and make a circus save on Guentzel.

Pittsburgh responded 66 seconds later when Sidney Crosby scored his first goal of the series, breaking in alone and using a nifty deke to beat Rinne.

Looking back, it seems like forever ago that anybody was talking about Rinne losing his starting spot.

Like any good fisherman, Nashville Predators coach Peter Laviolette doesn't want to think about the big one that got away - and he reminded the team's fans of that point. Those three shots were one less than they produced over their previous 13 chances. The Predators in past years have given out a construction worker's hard hat to recognize the best player in a game.

In an interview with Nashville radio he explained how he smuggled the dead fish into Pittsburgh's PPG Paints Arena.

It was a huge moment, preventing the Penguins from tying things up.

Former Penguin James Neal threw an ill-advised pass into the neutral zone, and Brian Dumoulin sent a quick-up to Crosby. Harms, who played a total of 43 National Hockey League regular-season games, accomplished the same feat for the 1944 Chicago Blackhawks.
