Colleges vow to fight climate change despite USA leaving pact

Gov. Jerry Brown met with President Xi Jinping on Tuesday, in a highly rare move that catapults California's status as a negotiator with China while the US falls back on climate change. Brown browbeat his state's legislature in April into dramatically raising California's gas tax, as well as push for extending the state's already massive cap-and-trade program.

Jerry Brown is taking it one step further.

After Trump administration announced pull out from Paris Climate accord, leaders all over the world have condemned the move announced by President Donald Trump.

"We can't do it alone", Brown said during the meeting. Chinese officials recently asked the state for guidance with a carbon emissions trading market they plan to launch this year.

Brown told reporters at the worldwide clean energy conference in Beijing that nixing the Paris agreement is only a temporary setback, adding that China, European countries and the coalition of states should be able to fill in the gap Trump left.

The pair met soon after the top USA diplomat in China resigned, allegedly in protest of Trump's Paris decision.

Brown also spoke at the Clean Air Ministerial in Beijing on Tuesday, which was the busiest day of his trip.

Despite the hullabaloo raised by the leftist media and climate-change alarmists, there is nothing about the USA leaving the agreement that prevents Americans from continuing to invest in new energy technologies. Both pacts focus on broadening collaboration on environmental protection.

Brown has been vocal on climate matters.

"Withdrawal from the Paris Agreement will send the wrong signal to the global sustainable energy marketplace, hurting prospective US investment in places like in, which ranks second in the country in renewable energy manufacturing job potential", says Kharbanda. China and the Obama administration negotiated the deal, and China has vowed to stay in it. "I don't know of a single Fortune 500 fossil fuel company that is pushing for withdrawal".

The Wall Street Journal said it best: "Leadership is not defined as the USA endorsing whatever other world leaders have already decided they want to do, and the U.S.is providing a better model in any case".

But the nation has also become the largest investor in renewable energy, and the world's biggest producer of solar power.

Scientists from around the globe have warned that this ongoing warming creates conditions that spawn severe weather events, change global climate patterns, melt the world's glaciers and damage its coral reefs, and raise sea levels around the world.
