Washington, Jun 1 President Donald Trump said today that he will announce his decision on whether the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord tomorrow, amid strong indications he may pull out of the landmark deal isolating America in worldwide efforts to fight global warming.
"The United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord but begin negotiations to re-enter either the Paris Accord or really an entirely new transaction on terms that are fair to the United States", the president said in the Rose Garden.
Some nations, including the United States, set emissions-curbing targets for 2025, others for 2030.
"This agreement is less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States", he said, claiming that other countries have laughed at the USA for agreeing to the terms".
More on this as it develops. Knowing he won't be able to run another stealth climate change campaign for the next general election, expected in just two years, Trudeau and the Liberals will need to temper their carbon enthusiasm to avoid another debacle.

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown is pushing state leaders across the country to demonstrate support for the almost 200-nation agreement if Trump pulls out of the coordinated response to global warming. Calculations suggest withdrawal could result in emissions of up to 3 billion tons of additional carbon dioxide in the air a year - enough to melt ice sheets faster, raise seas higher and trigger more extreme weather. World leaders pledged Thursday to keep up the fight against global warming and urged Donald Trump to be part of that effort, hours before the U.S. He has said the deal is "unfair" to the USA, objecting in particular to the requirement that wealthy nations help developing countries build renewable energy sources.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also opposed backing out of the accord: he personally phoned the White House earlier this week, according to a Bloomberg report. That option would provide a fast track and could be done in a year, but would deny the US a future seat at the table, locking the country out of future climate talks.
Many big companies say they must make long-term investment decisions based on the assumption that most countries will stiffen environmental standards.
A person familiar with Trump's thinking said the President was convinced he needed to withdraw from the pact, and there was little chance of talking his out of it.
"It is disappointing that President Trump does not see the opportunity for economic growth which clean energy presents - emerging economies such as China and India are discovering how renewable energy can be a catalyst for a booming economy, creating green jobs and flourishing businesses, while reducing carbon emissions". Nothing we say now can change that. The United States would joinSyria and Nicaragua as the world's only non-participants in the landmark 195-nation accord agreed upon in Paris in 2015.
The departure of the USA would make it significantly harder to avoid temperatures rising by more than two degrees Celsius by 2100, according to climate modeling by US not-for-profit Climate Interactive.
