Trump has 'total confidence' in son-in-law Kushner

President Donald Trump's top counselor, Kellyanne Conway, on Tuesday dismissed the importance of recent reports that senior adviser Jared Kushner attempted to create a secret line of communications with Russian Federation during the presidential transition a year ago.

After he returned from Europe, the president also disparaged White House leaks and "fake news" from the media in a series of tweets, apparently in response to a number of damaging news stories last week, including the Kushner report.

Speaking on Sunday's news shows, Kelly said he didn't know whether the reports by The Associated Press and other news outlets involving Kushner, who is President Donald Trump's son-in-law, were true.

CBS News has confirmed that when Kushner met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December, the two discussed setting up a back channel for communications between the Trump transition team and Russian officials. He added that it is "very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers". "#FakeNews is the enemy!", Trump tweets.

Trump has regularly called the mainstream media "fake news" since entering the world of politics. His last day has not yet been determined. "Very bad for U.S. This will change".

While overseas, Trump's longtime lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, joined a still-forming legal team to help the president shoulder the intensifying investigations into alleged Russian interference in the election and his associates' potential involvement.

"It's both normal in my opinion and acceptable", he told ABC News on Sunday.

Jared Kushner, an Orthodox Jew whose wife Ivanka is one of Trump's five children, is a real estate and media tycoon who was appointed senior White House adviser, with a wide-ranging remit which includes the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "Any way that you can communicate with people, particularly organizations that are maybe not particularly friendly to us, is a good thing". Neither the meeting nor the Americans involved were under USA surveillance, officials told the Post.

We have back-channel communication with a number of countries.

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee also said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin poses a bigger threat to national security than ISIS. "As they build their own situational awareness - with Russian Federation in this case - I don't see an issue here".

Trump fired FBI Director, James Comey on May 9. "They are not our friends".
