Trump finds it's six against one on climate change

G7 leaders meet in Taormina, Sicily, May 26, 2017 Facing front, from left: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, U.S. President Donald Trump, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that sustained commitment to the Paris agreement was "indispensable to the reputation of the United States".

"President Trump should join these leaders in protecting Americans from the mounting impacts of climate change and reaping the economic benefits of the clean energy revolution", Meyer said.

President Donald Trump says he'll make a final decision on whether the USA will stay in the Paris climate agreement next week.

She told reporters: 'The entire discussion about climate was very hard, if not to say very dissatisfying. "Do you want my cell phone so we can speak directly to each other?"

Diplomats spent days trying to hammer out language for the G-7 joint statement.

There was a very frank exchange of views on climate.

"We have put forward a lot of arguments" in favour of the Paris deal, she said.

Trump has repeatedly called global warming a hoax, while he pledged on the campaign trail to cancel the Paris "bad deal".

He also predicted "fairly robust" talks on whether Trump should honor a US commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions under the 2015 Paris Agreement. Now the president heads back to Washington, where much of his party is pushing him to do the opposite. He added an exclamation point, mirroring Cohn's description that Trump was "very excited to have the experience" of talking to G7 leaders about Paris. Members of his administration, meanwhile, are deadlocked on the issue.

Trump, who ran for president vowing to rip up the agreement, listened carefully to his new counterparts and is "evolving" on the issue, according to a top aide. The official said Trump repeatedly referred to Le Pen as "this woman" in their conversation and never mentioned her by name, the official noted. "If you let him go back to the civil war within the White House, Pruitt might win", he said.

There is no evidence that money has begun to "pour in" - and countries do not pay the US or North Atlantic Treaty Organisation directly. The president hosted Abe at the White House and his Mar-a-Lago resort back in February, where they appeared to hit it off.Trump has criticized efforts to cut emissions, saying they limit US economic competitiveness.

President Donald Trump looks at First lady Melania as he prepares to address U.S. military troops and their families at the Sigonella Naval Air Station, in Sigonella, Italy, Saturday, May 27, 2017. Only five of NATO's 28 members meet the target: Britain, Estonia, debt-laden Greece, Poland and the United States, which spends more on defense than all the other allies combined.

The Paris Agreement is broader than any previous climate accord.

The pact asks those signed up to the deal to reduce carbon emissions to ensure the global temperature does not rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius per year.
