LeBron James breaks Michael Jordan's playoff scoring record

James played in his 212th career postseason game on Thursday night, when the Cavaliers beat the Celtics 135-102 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals to advance to the NBA Finals.

However, James has been a more efficient postseason scorer than Jordan, needing fewer shots (4,379 to 4,497), albeit while hitting a lower percentage (.482-.487) and taking more three-pointers (971-446).

Durant's decision to leave the Thunder for Golden State as a free agent last summer meant the Warriors went from mere overwhelming favorites to win the West again to super-duper-overwhelming favorites to win the West again.

James bounced back strong after a poor Game 3 performance, finishing with 34 points, five rebounds and six assists, while Kevin Love had 17 points, 17 boards and five assists.

The Cleveland regulars were 16 of 33 from behind the arc through three quarters - after the Cavs went 19 of 39 on treys in a 44-point win in Game 2.

For the first time in National Basketball Association playoff history, the same two teams will meet in the Finals for the third consecutive year. So I didn't even believe I could be Mike. We're talking about LeBron James here and a Cavaliers team with some depth. "We needed everything tonight." said Kyrie Irving who scored his career-high in playoffs with 42 points.

The Celtics were 9-9 during a playoff run that capped a successful season.

He has scored 955 of those points against Boston, the most for any player against any team. No other player on the roster is capable of scoring 20 points per game.

James, Irving and Love took command from the opening tip-off on Thursday. But the Wine and Gold put the hammer down in the third quarter - extending their edge to as many as 35 before calling off the dogs.

Let the hype, and the waiting, begin: Game 1 isn't until June 1.

Up Next - After posting the "gentleman's sweep" of the Celtics, the Wine and Gold will prepare for the awaiting Warriors, who wrapped up the Western Conference Finals on Monday night.

It is the seventh successive year James has led his team to the finals, with four straight appearances for the Miami Heat preceding his return to Cleveland in 2014.
