In nod to Comey story, aide shares video of Clinton avoiding hug

Longtime Hillary Clinton aide Philippe Reines on Friday shared a video of himself nearly violently hugging his boss, showing how Clinton's campaign had prepared the then-presidential candidate for Donald Trump's notoriously forceful handshakes.

Comey, who Wittes said "stood in the back, right in front of the drapes, hoping Trump wouldn't notice him camouflaged against the wall", went to shake Trump's hand.

In the video, Reines, pretending to be Trump, greets Clinton on stage for a friendly embrace.

The amusing clip was posted by Philippe Reines, a Clinton surrogate who acted as her election rival to prepare for the real shit-show.

Reines, a controversial Clinton insider, is known for, among other things, instructing a journalist at The Atlantic to describe a Clinton speech as "muscular" (which he then did), and a colorful email exchange with then-Gawker reporter J.K. Trotter about Clinton staffers' use of private email accounts. But instead of going for a handshake, the man portraying Trump opens his arms wide, inviting a hug. Clinton was practicing her technique of greeting her opponent before a debate.

Reines' tweet appears to be a response to the Times' Comey story.

So if Trump really feels as though Clinton and Obama were breaking the law, why hasn't he asked Jeff Sessions to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate those matters?

Comey, who was spectacularly ousted as the Federal Bureau of Investigation director last week, was said to be "disgusted" when Trump tried to hug him in a public display of closeness, according to Comey's friend Benjamin Wittes in a Lawfare blog post.

"Not easy to avoid the unwanted Trump hug, sometimes it even takes practice", tweeted Reines on Friday, accompanied by a video. "If you look at the video, it's one person shaking hands and another hugging".

Phillipe Reines tweeted a video showing Clinton and himself, as Trump, entering a simulated debate setup for a traditional handshake. Trump joked that Comey has "become more famous than me".
