US warns against travel to North Korea

According to KOTRA data, Japan and China are North Korea's major trade partners.

The new unit will work closely with the USA intelligence community and the entire U.S. national security community to monitor the North Korean threat.

The volatile situation on the Korean Peninsula has prompted Moscow to get involved in the reignited crisis directly.

The creation of a CIA mission center dedicated specifically to North Korea also comes just days after Pyongyang threatened to launch an "anti-terrorist" attack against the USA and South Korean intelligence agencies for their alleged plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The defense missile system, known as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, went into operation last week, said The New York Times.

Pyongyang will seek the extradition of anyone involved in what it says was a CIA-backed plot to kill leader Kim Jung Un last month with a biochemical poison, a top North Korean foreign ministry official said Thursday.

"Creating the Korea Mission Center allows us to more purposefully integrate and direct CIA efforts against the serious threats to the United States and its allies emanating from North Korea", CIA Director Mike Pompeo said in a statement.

China has over the years tried to coax North Korea into cautious, export-oriented economic reforms, rather than sabre rattling and nuclear tests, but to little avail.

"The terrorists were infiltrated by the CIA of the U.S. and the puppet National Intelligence Service of South Korea in a bid to commit state-sponsored terrorism against the supreme leadership of the DPRK by use of a biochemical substance", Vice Foreign Minister Han Song-ryol was quoted as saying by KCNA.

Pyongyang has yet to name any North Korean or foreign suspects living overseas.

Russia and North Korea have previously attempted to amend their once-very warm ties, but "there is little doubt that Russia is making honest attempts at building a partnership with North Korea" during the public spat between China and the North, Russia-Korea analyst Anthony Rinna wrote in his recent report published by the Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies at the University of Nottingham.

OPINION: Is war coming to North Korea? .

"North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today".

Through a spokesman in April, newly-elected South Korean president Moon Jae-in called the arrival of the missile system in South Korea "very inappropriate", according to Reuters. North-Russia ties had been strong for almost half a century before the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.

There are 10 such existing centres in the Central Intelligence Agency, and the new addition will be the most focused in terms of geographical area and remit - the Korean Peninsula now falls under the jurisdiction of the Mission Centre for East Asia and Pacific.

China has no plans to push North Korea toward Russian Federation or the U.S. In 2014, sour ties between Russian Federation and North Korea saw the light at the end of the tunnel when Russian Federation wrote off 90% of North's massive $11 billion debt from the Soviet era.
