Swans pull Premier League survival within reach after shock win

Swansea City have achieved "something special" in climbing out of the Premier League's relegation zone but, with the end of the season in sight, the battle to maintain their top-flight status is still in the balance, manager Paul Clement said.

Paul Clement says Swansea do not intend to waste their Premier League lifeline after becoming masters of their own destiny.

Swansea City leapfrogged Hull City to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone with two games remaining after Fernando Llorente headed the victor against Everton.

Clement described the Sunderland match as a "big opportunity" for Swansea, especially with Hull travelling to Crystal Palace the following day, but he will not be taking anything for granted.

"It gave us a lift before the game knowing that (Hull) result had gone in our favour; we knew if we did something special we could get out of the relegation zone".

Sunderland were backed by 2,542 supporters at the KCOM Stadium, with the travelling support out-singing the home support for large periods of the 2-0 win over Hull City.

Everton played with much more urgency after the break and as a result, Swansea lost their control of the game.

"It is the nature of the league where anyone can beat anyone when firing to their potential".

The players are paying for 3,000 fans to make the 691-mile round trip to the north east.

"I thought our supporters were unbelievable getting behind our players".

"I am very happy to score", Llorente said. It was so important we got that result today given what happened at Hull.

Everton piled on the pressure with corner after corner in the dying moments, but Swansea remained resilient to secure the win.

Fernando Llorente scored the victor on a tense evening in south Wales as Swansea stood firm in the face of some late Everton pressure.

Everton, without a win in three games overall, return to action next weekend with a home match against Watford. I was fighting relegation in Spain with Athletic Bilbao and it's very hard being in this position, but I think we have a good dressing room.

"You don't always know how the fans are going to react but they were brilliant and credit to them", he told the club website. We need to create chances for Romelu [Lukaku], support him - that was better in the second half.

"But also with their win, it shows they can not be underestimated and our players will need to understand now that even though they have been relegated, their players will have a different objective".
