National Day of Prayer event planned Thursday in Fort Wayne

Mason Countians will have an opportunity to participate in the 66th National Day of Prayer, locally, at the Mason County Courthouse.

The first National Day of Prayer observance, organized by the National Prayer Committee, took place at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. with featured speakers Vice President George Bush and Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, according to the NDOP website at

The community is encouraged to attend.

The event is held in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, a series of gatherings held under a central theme.

The event's format will resemble that of past years, with an opening devotional, a reading from the Bible and then representatives from seven areas of the community each leading prayer individually for the group they represent. "Regardless of what side of the isle you fall on politically, at the end of the day we all want our leaders to be successful and ultimately we want peace. We believe God is with us always and can answer our prayers".

Persida Moran, James Bradford and Oliver McMahan will lead in prayers for God to unite His church.

From noon to about 1 p.m., participants prayed for wisdom, for leaders to make the right decisions, for people who are hurting and for God to draw his people together through his spirit. There were also individuals coming to pray for churches, families, government, business, media, military, education and Israel. It was in 1952 that a joint resolution of Congress was signed by President Harry Truman to create this day.

Community members pray for issues in the nation.

Musser attended the Boalsburg session held earlier in the morning at the Pennsylvania Military Museum before hopping in his auto and making the more than two-hour trek to another Day of Prayer celebration in Lititz Springs Park.
