Whitehall terror alert suspect named as Khalid Mohamed Omar Ali

British counter-terrorism police said on Friday they had disrupted an active terrorist plot after a woman was shot during an armed raid on a house in north London.

They were all arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist acts and taken to a south London police station for questioning.

During the operation, a woman in her 20s was shot by police officers after they entered a house on Harlesden Road in Willesden, northwest London.

"An armed entry was necessary due to the nature of the intelligence that we were dealing with, and involved armed officers firing CS into the address", Met Police senior counter-terrorism officer Neil Basu said during a press conference on Friday. Police made two further arrests later in the evening, when a man and a woman - both 28-years old - returned to the house in Willesden.

"Knives have been recovered from him", Scotland Yard police said in a statement, adding that he was being detained under terror laws.

As the hysterical woman was dragged from the bus, other officers kicked open a front door leading to the nearest flat and dragged her inside. "Activity continues around the clock to identify and stop these threats and we are making arrests on a near daily basis", Basu said. "We are monitoring her condition closely", the Indian-origin top police officer said.

The latest incidents comes after the Westminster attack on March 22 in which Khalid Masood killed five people.

Ms Sabanov said the Muslim woman was "screaming really loud" and they had previously "never suspected anything at all".

Three separate addresses were searched as part of the operation, including the one in Harlesden Road.

"Obviously I can't say much more about it because it is an ongoing police investigation but I think it shows that our police and our intelligence and security services are on the alert as they always are, looking to keep us safe and secure".

Counterterrorism police told the Washington Post they've thwarted 13 potential terror attacks over in the last four years.

"I would say we owe a huge debt of gratitude to these people".

Police shot a woman in her twenties in the capital yesterday, shortly before 7pm, during searches of several addresses.

While relatively few British police officers carry guns, the number of firearms officers around Parliament was boosted after last month's attack.

A 27-year-old man remains in custody after being arrested near Parliament on suspicion of terrorism offences and possession of knives, in what police confirmed had been an ongoing investigation.

Britain's official threat level from global terrorism stand at the second-highest level, "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely. The raid came on the same day a man was arrested for carrying weapons near the U.K. Parliament. "She is not yet under formal arrest but remains in a stable condition under armed guard at a hospital".
