Record Store Day 2017 Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary On Saturday

The event will be held at the store with free beer, live music from featured artists, food, exclusive merchandise and limited edition releases.

Laverne said: "The 10 anniversary of Record Store Day is going to be a hugely special day, and I'm so pleased to be marking the occasion in Huddersfield at one of the most iconic record stores with some of the most talented people in the industry".

Started by a bunch of record-store owners in the U.S. in 2007, the intention of celebrating International World Record Store Day was to celebrate and advocate for the independent record shop.

The owner of one of Britain's most successful independent record stores has called on people to celebrate the uniqueness of their small music shops.

But the trickiest part of the annual event happens before the doors even open.

Queues began to form outside stores the day before the event and thousands of music fans have been sharing photos of their finds during the day. There's something special about the sound of a record, and today's the day you can celebrate it.

Now in its 10th year, Record Store Day has become a national movement of sorts. Audio manufacturers are of course trying to get in on the act too, but Which? has seen special Record Store Day offers on turntables that are best left alone.

Record player manufacturers understandably want to capitalise on the hype in order to sell more units.

"It's just a great reminder for everyone that record stores are still here and they are still important", Sowers added.

And that, Robbins said, is the idea behind Record Store Day.

Low Yo Yo Stuff manager Michael Gerard says his store "went totally nuts this year and ordered every single thing we could!"

Metal, punk and rock vinyl is available at Evil Eye Records which is located next to Major Tom's Social bar on The Ginnel in Harrogate.

"We're shooting for 9", he said.

The BPI said that vinyl, which has hit a 25 year high, now accounts for 15% of physical album turnover.

MaTones has found success in the local vinyl market since its opening last fall, and in addition to carrying a wide array of new and used records, owner Adam Matone has some big plans for his first Record Store Day.

Biafra, who now heads punk band Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, also owns and operates the independent record label Alternative Tentacles, which was founded in 1979. These days, there are combo stores selling comics and records.
