ACC will make up year lost at NC venues

The NCAA selected more than 600 host sites for preliminary rounds and finals of predetermined championships in Divisions I, II and III to be held from 2017-18 through 2021-22.

Following a compromise earlier this month that replaced HB2 with a new law, the NCAA said its Board of Governors voted "reluctantly" to consider championship bids from North Carolina locations.

The NCAA announced Tuesday that it will once again hold championship events in North Carolina after moving them out of the state this academic year because of a bathroom law that widely was regarded as discriminatory.

It appears the repeal of HB2 has paid off for North Carolina.

The 2018 ACC Women's Swimming & Diving and Men's Diving Championships will be held February 14-17 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, while the ACC Men's Swimming Championship is set for February 21-24.

Cary, N.C., will host the women's soccer College Cup in 2018 and 2020. Bon Secours Wellness Arena, Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and Moody Coliseum will be first-time hosts.

— The men's golf championship will be in New London through 2021. The Council's decision to return neutral site championships to North Carolina, beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, took place on Friday, March 31. Jacksonville was the host of the first three title games from 2005 through 2007 before the game moved to Tampa in 2008 and 2009 and, as previously mentioned, Orlando in 2016. The men's West Regional will be played in San Francisco, which has not been a tournament site since 1960, while Fort Worth, Texas, which hasn't been a tournament site since 1970, will host 2022 first- and second-round games.

If North Carolina does not get a bid today, experts say it could cause the state at least $250 million over the next five years.

Pittsburgh made out big in gaining major NCAA Division I championship events.

Jacksonville University will be the host institution for the NCAA games in the city, which is the only Florida site with an NCAA regional forthe next two years. "While the compromise to repeal House Bill 2 was an important first step to fight discrimination and improve our state's reputation and economy, we can not stop until we have statewide LGBT protections".

"Further, outside of bathroom facilities, the new law allows our campuses to maintain their own policies against discrimination, including protecting LGBTQ rights, and allows cities' existing nondiscrimination ordinances, including LBGTQ protections, to remain effective".
