April the giraffe could have her baby 'today, tonight,' zoo says

"All signs are go".

In a late Wednesday evening update, April's veterinarian Dr. Tim wrote, "Ok Gang. if you have been watching today, you should start getting excited. we are seeing nearly all the signs of birth happening within the coming days. of course, my schedule is insane for the next few days so naturally, we will pick the worst time possible. Hah". Friday the zoo said in part, "we would be shocked to get through the weekend without our newest addition".

This is what we have all been waiting for!

"The main thing we want to get out of [the animals cams] is the enjoyment of seeing our animals and education", Hannah Hammon, Chattanooga Zoo director of marketing and communication, said.

But the giraffe has been waiting - along with the rest of us - for months.

The Animal Adventure Park in upstate NY began live streaming from the pregnant Giraffe's barn on February 24, and at any given time, there are thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of people watching her every move.

Patch attributed the temporary shut down to "some people that fundamentally disagree with what we do here, keeping animals in captivity". So their tool to take down our cam to punish us or take it off-air was to report it to YouTube for having sexually explicit content. "It can be 30 to 60 minutes before we have a calf on the ground".

April's udder changes have been significant in recent days, and keepers say udder development "occurs, generally, just prior to birthing".

So why does it seem like April has been pregnant for an eternity? If so, way to play the long game, Animal Adventure Park.

April's behavior continues to be good, if somewhat moody, and she has kept viewers at home as well as keepers on the edge of their seats.

When April goes into active labor, the baby's front hoofs will be the first to come out, followed by the snout, the zoo says. Giraffe's instinctively hide their labor for however long it's lasting in order to not draw attention from predators who will wait out a giraffe's labor in order to attack once the calf is born.

But what if she doesn't give birth?

The calf will weigh around 150 pounds and will be about 6 feet tall at birth.

The park's caretakers were live on Facebook this morning talking about the big news.

Importantly, it added: "Www.aprilthegiraffe.com is your source for all things April".

Imagine if the labor and delivery rooms had cameras and provided live streaming to the internet to watch you while expecting, in labor and during the delivery of your baby.
