Google's New "Android O" Promises Battery Improvements & Revamped Notifications

The preview of the next version of Android has been launched for developers giving us an idea about the future of mobile software. This means users can block or change the behavior of each channel individually, rather than managing all of the app's notifications together.

Notification Shade: In Android O, there is a little re-ordering of the toggles.

"Building on the work we began in Nougat, Android O puts a big priority on improving a user's battery life and the device's interactive performance", Burke said.

In comparison, Apple claimed that 79% of all iOS devices were running iOS 10 as of February 20. Apps can put themselves in PiP mode from the resumed or a pausing state where the system supports it - and you can specify the aspect ratio and a set of custom interactions (such as play/pause). In this Google Weekly we'll talk about Android Nougat 7.1.2 beta, Android O preview, new themes in Google Blogger, Google Hangouts and more.

Sure, it's not the most groundbreaking addition Android O brings to the table. Instantly find your Google Photos, access your music playlists, pull up your flight itinerary and more.

As the report details, Google has expanded its process for pushing out major security updates.

While Nexus and Pixel handsets continue to get automatic updates, third-party devices continue to be slave to the whims of the manufacturer and it is this that Google is working to overcome. While the public version of Android O won't be released until later this year, it's possible for anyone with the right hardware to download and try out Android O right now. Although it's better to patch devices with each update, the Android updates are cumulative, so users who eventually update are covered up till that patch version. Those devices included the usual suspects, primarily Samsung Galaxy phones, along with others such as the LG G5, Moto X Style and Xperia Z5. The lock screen can now have shortcuts added to it. Android security team member Andrew Ludwig told TechCrunch that around 78 percent of flagship Android devices in North America were on a current security update.
