Hamas Rejects Israeli Offer to Aid Gaza in Exchange for Freeing Hostages

USA president Donald Trump on Friday said that he believes Israeli settlements in the Palestinian West Bank are not "good for pace".

Trump's comments to Israel Today come as he tones down his pro-Israel bravado ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trip to the White House on February 15.

The worldwide community largely views the Palestinian areas of East Jerusalem as occupied territory.

He also said he was still studying the case for relocating the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, a move that could anger the Arab world. "No one wants to make this decision, and I'm thinking about it seriously". The interview was published days before Netanyahu was due to visit the White House.

"Many people think that it is impossible", he said.

Since Trump's inauguration, Netanyahu's government has announced the construction of 5,500 new houses in the occupied West Bank, and the prime minister even raised the idea of building the first entirely new settlement in years. "I understand Israel very well, and I respect Israel a lot, and they have been through a lot". But we are looking at that, and we are looking at some other options we'll see. "I don't agree. I think we can reach an agreement and that we need to reach an agreement", he said.

Referring to the embassy move in an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity last month, Trump said, "I don't want to talk about it yet".

The newspaper also said ISIS proudly reported in a message to the media that they were behind the attack and bragged that they planned to launch more attacks. "I don't want to condemn Israel during my term", Trump said.

Sowing further confusion over his often chaotic and contradictory foreign policy pronouncements - both during the campaign for president and since his inauguration - the U.S. president took the unusual step of making the remarks to a rightwing Israeli freesheet paper owned by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who donated $20m (£16m) to Trump's campaign. I do not want to condemn Israel during my tenure.

Trump added that he would like to see peace between Israel and Palestine as well as "a level of reasonableness of both parties".

Trump is quoted as saying that he is not a person who believes that proceeding with settlements is good for peace.

"I am not someone who believes that advancing settlements is good for peace".
