Facebook to replace your weather app

The company has now fully integrated new features focused on the weather into its desktop and mobile apps. Facebook says that it will also allow users to set notifications for receiving weather forecasts.

As previously mentioned, the information displayed is powered by Weather.com's API, and Facebook gives it its due credit, proffering users a link at the nether part of the page if they want expanded weather information. Users can also select whether they want to see the forecast in Celsius or Fahrenheit (as shown in the image below). I don't always keep in mind to check the weather, so having it built into one of my most commonly used apps feels like a no-brainer. Interestingly, the weather update would be forecasted by Weather.com. There's also a graphic at the top of the page reflecting the current conditions in your area, so those of us now suffering through the winter storm in the Northeast will be greeted by a snowy scene. The new weather is placed on top of the news feed and greets users with the weather forecast based on their location. This weather greeting section by the News Feed is also undergoing testing right now.

The heading of the section includes doodles that change depending on the weather, alongside the current temperature, high and low estimates for the day, and a one-to-three sentence summation of the present forecast. You no longer have to leave Facebook to find out. You can even head to the official Weather website from Facebook by clicking on "See more weather information" on the bottom part of the page.

For local businesses that require you to book an appointment (for example spas and salons) you can request a time via the business' Facebook page.

If you have Facebook on your iOS or Android device, you should notice the weather feature available now.

The feature which is an updated version of its earlier "Weather Greetings", is accessible from News Feed or the mobile app's "More" menu. These notifications are now undergoing testing and should be available by the end of the month. The menu also consists new Facebook pilot feature such as public WiFi finder.
